When the Flood Came

Look at a few verses about Noah, the Flood, and the people.

I want you to notice the parallel between the time of the Flood and the time of Christ’s coming:

As the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Matthew 24:37

1 – Ignorance reigned

Noah was a preacher of righteousness. The people should’ve realized their peril. Even as Noah built the ark, they continued with the routines of life, ignoring Noah’s message.

[God] spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

2 Peter 2:5

They knew not until the flood came, and took them all away…

Matthew 24:39

At the coming of the Son of Man, the same thing happens. Despite the widespread preaching of the Word of God, the people continue in their ways, completely ignorant of their impending doom.

2 – Complete destruction

Ignoring God’s Word and the preaching of the Word have serious consequences.

The flood came, and destroyed them all.

Luke 17:27

As in Noah’s day, the ungodly head toward complete destruction. God’s judgment will surprise them.

3 – Condemnation

SodomĀ andĀ Gomorrha are an example for those who, after the flood, choose to ignore God.

Turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;

2 Peter 2:6

He that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:18

Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, 15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

Jude 1:14-15

4 – Only the ungodly face destruction

Bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

2 Peter 2:5

As was the case in Noah’s time, the ungodly rule the world. Those who repent are in the world, but not of the world (John 17:16). Repent now, before God’s judgment falls on you.
