God is for You

During a time of distress, while held captive by the Philistines, David wrote Psalm 56. Can you imagine how he felt as the enemy closed in on him?

In the natural, David has no hope.

Fortunately, in Psalm 56 verse 9, David remembered who he is and who’s for him.

God is for You

In the middle of a terrible situation, David said,

When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.

Psalms 56:9

This reminds me of what Apostle Paul says in Romans 8:31.

If God be for us, who can be against us?

I understand that some people have serious adverse circumstances to deal with. I want to encourage you by reminding you that the God who created the universe is for you, not against you.

Let’s dive into this text and the promise that God is on your side.

Understanding the Context:

David wrote this psalm as a prisoner of the Philistines in Gath. He was in a place of great danger where his life was at risk. Yet, in the middle of his fear and uncertainty, David took comfort in God.

Knowing that God was for him helped him persevere, even when his situation seemed hopeless.

I want you to know that God is for you. All you have to do is cry out to Him and believe. If you do, no enemy can harm you.

God is For You:

  1. Personal Assurance:
    • “God is for me”–this is not a general statement about God’s nature; it’s deeply personal. David knew God wasn’t just for the Israelites or for a select few; God was for him, personally. In your life, God wants you to call on Him; He is concerned with your personal situation. Even when things seem bleak, God is for you!
  2. The Power of Prayer:
    • When David says, “When I cry unto thee,” he knows he has an active relationship with God through prayer. When we pray, we’re not just reciting words; we’re engaging with the God of the universe who listens to you and acts on your behalf.
  3. The Turning of Tides:
    • “Then shall mine enemies turn back.” The reality of God being for you means situations can change, you can defeat enemies, and you can overcome obstacles. In life, you’ll have enemies. You’ll have problems. Despite that, you have the assurance that God is for you. His presence in your life changes everything.
  4. A Sign of Divine Favor:
    • “This I know; for God is for me.” David’s faith wasn’t blind; he understood God was on his side fighting for him. Every time God answers your prayers, every time you see a breakthrough, it’s a testament to God’s unprecedented favor over your life.

Living with this Assurance:

  • Face Your Fears with Faith: Just as David did, we can face our fears knowing that God is our advocate. This doesn’t mean we won’t experience fear, but we can move through it with faith.
  • Celebrate God: Keep a record of God’s faithfulness in your life. Like David, recognize and celebrate each moment God has shown He is for you, whether it’s through deliverance, provision, or peace.
  • Share Your Testimony: Your story of God being for you can give hope to someone else. Share how God has moved in your life, not just to glorify Him but to encourage others.

Conclusion:

Remember Psalms 56:9. See God’s favor as a reality in your life. God is for you in every step, every trial, and every triumph. Regardless of what you face today, tomorrow, or in the future, you can find comfort that no enemy can stand against you when God is on your side. Transform your fears into faith, your doubts into confidence, and your life into an inspiration to others who need to trust God’s unwavering support.
