[God] spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth [person], a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
2 Peter 2:5
Noah preached righteousness and prepared the world for God’s judgment as the Flood.
Noah, a Preacher of Righteousness
Did Noah actually preach, or did his actions of faith do the preaching?
According to the Outline of Biblical Usage, Noah as a preacher was:
A herald or messenger vested with public authority, who conveyed the official messages of kings, magistrates, princes, military commanders, or who gave a public summons or demand, and performed various other duties. In the NT God’s ambassador, and the herald or proclaimer of the divine word.
Outline of Biblical Usage
Apostle Paul uses the same word for himself as a preacher that Apostle Peter uses to describe Noah. Paul says,
I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
2 Timothy 1:11
So, without doubt, Noah preached the Righteousness of God. He called the sinful world to repentance, just as I do now.
