For Glory and for Beauty (Part 4 of 4)

After speaking to you about the priesthood and your role as a priest. I told you to put on your clothes. They are for glory and beauty.

If you’re saved, you’re a priest of God: You should put on Christ. You should sanctify yourself.

Jesus has done great things for us. He gives us direct access to the Father. We also have the power to bring other people to God.

Great responsibility comes with the power God has given us. You have the responsibility to put on Jesus (Galatians 3:27). You also must put on righteousness and live a sanctified life.

Job said,

I put on righteousness, and it clothed me:

Job 29:14

When God created the priesthood, he told the priests what to wear before He told them what to do.

They had clothes that were…

For glory and for beauty.

God, under the Old Covenant, required the priests to wear holy garments as they served (Exodus 28:2). Now, under the New Testament, God still expects His priests (us) to wear the right clothes.

The Bible tells you to take off your old clothes and put on new ones.

Don’t think of priestly garments as a curse or a burden. Instead, view them as a testimony of your special standing with God.

You have…

Glory.

The word rendered here as “glory” speaks of honor, abundance, riches and majesty.

God didn’t call you into poverty and shame. Jesus came to give you an abundant life (John 10:10).

In fact, God wants to…

Shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2:7

Scripture tells us that God calls believers unto His eternal glory by Christ Jesus (1 Peter 5:10). We put on the Lord’s glory when we allow the Word of God to work in and through us.

Apostle Paul tells us that

Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of the water by the word,

That he might present it to himself a glorious church…

Ephesians 5:25-27

Besides learning God’s Word and applying it to our lives, we must allow the Holy Spirit to move us.

We all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 3:18

And, as I’ve already noted, we must, in this life, intentionally pursue godliness. We must

Walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

1 Thessalonians 2:12

When we wear the right clothes, we reflect the glory of God.

Our priestly attire also gives us…

Beauty.

This word refers to the splendor of the garments. When you put on your priestly attire, you have a magnificent appearance.

Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

1 Chronicles 16:29

While clothing yourself, don’t forget your shoes!

Romans 10:15:

How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Romans 10:15

Beautiful feet need beautiful shoes. So, make sure that you have

Your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Ephesians 6:15

You are a child of the King. You’re a priest of God. Put on all the garments!

Just remember,…

God can help.

Before you feel discouraged by the priesthood, I want to remind you that God has made all of this possible through Christ.

Jesus came…

To give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness…

Isaiah 61:3

In closing, I want to ask…

How Do You Look?

Jesus saved you. He called you into a royal priesthood. Have you put on Jesus for glory and for beauty? Are you living a sanctified life? If so, you look beautiful. You look glorious!

Let your priestly attire testify to the world of your special position with God.
